The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is committed to continuing to encourage the development of aquaculture through the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 2022 concerning Aquaculture Fisheries Villages. In order to accelerate this step, KKP also provides various supports, including through access to capital managed by the Maritime and Fishery Business Capital Management Agency (LPMUKP). Business capital support is channeled to cultivators throughout the country, including in the southern region of Java. Many villages in the area which are known for producing export-quality lobsters have also been designated as lobster farming villages.Like one of them in Sarongan Village, Pesanggaran District, Banyuwangi Regency. Even though the location is quite far from the city center, the abundance of potential and resources makes this village capable of producing an abundance of lobsters every year. "At least 11 million fry a year are produced from Sarongan. With clean water sources and supportive feed, the Sarongan area is very suitable to be a location for lobster development," explained Ari (32), Fisheries Extension Officer in Banyuwangi Regency. There are also various types of lobster that are cultivated by the community. Starting from sand lobsters (Panulirus Homarus), bamboo lobsters (Panulirus Versicolor) to Pearl lobsters (Pamulirus Ornatus) which are famous for their exorbitant prices. They then sell the cultivated lobsters with the main target of the export market to destination countries such as Vietnam, China and Hong Kong.
Not only in the Southern region of Java, LPMUKP's support has also touched on the development of cultivation of other commodities from Eastern Indonesia. Namely sea cucumbers, a mainstay of Maluku seafood, which was also developed in Tual City. In Tual itself, the cultivation of sea cucumbers is certainly a big opportunity, considering the abundant amount and the high level of public consumption. In addition, the selling price of sea cucumbers in the market is quite high, which ranges from Rp. 300-Rp. 600 thousand per kilogram. "By designating Ohoitel, Taar, Tayando and Yamtel Villages as cultivation villages, the KKP has also encouraged the community to further cultivate sea cucumbers," said Frits Richardo Songjanan, Fisheries Extension Officer for the Tual City work area. Sea cucumbers themselves are cultivated in their natural habitat, which is on the shallow seabed. During the enlargement process, sea cucumbers eat natural food in the form of plankton available on the seabed. The cultivation of sea cucumbers and lobsters is of great benefit to the community's economy. In the future, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries hopes that with the support of capital, the high potential for well-managed cultivation can continue to be developed with the principles of sustainability and prosperity for the community.
