G20 Success, Airlangga Optimistic Indonesian Economy Continues to Grow Positively

Indonesia's G20 presidency was successfully held, even in the midst of various crises and challenges facing the world. This success also received appreciation from many countries. The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto said, the success of the G20 had a good impact on Indonesia. Therefore, he is optimistic that the Indonesian economy will continue to grow positively in the future. "They, the big countries, have seen that the biggest economy in the world that is still positive or the term from Kristalina is the bright spot in dark, namely Indonesia and ASEAN," Airlangga said in a talk show on a television station, as quoted from an official statement. Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Friday (25/11).

"Thus, the investment alternative is to see that Indonesia is politically stable and this is stable for regulations, the rule of law of investment. So this is an opportunity for Indonesia to be on the world stage," he added. It is only known that Indonesia is the only country representing Southeast Asia and is one of the axis of developing countries in the G20 forum. Indonesia has also succeeded in becoming a mediator and producing a declaration that can be adopted by all member countries at the Indonesian G20 Summit. The success of Indonesia's G20 Presidency has also had a positive impact on Indonesia in various sectors. In terms of the economy, the pace of the national economy in the last two quarters which continued to grow (5.72% yoy) surpassed the economies of developed countries such as China (3.9% yoy) and the United States (1.8% yoy). Even so, there was an increase in GRDP in a number of cities where the G20 event was held.

In terms of international relations, Indonesia has strengthened the world's level of trust in Indonesia's ability to become an important actor in the international arena. This increase in Indonesia's position can encourage progress in various sectors of the Indonesian economy. In addition, at the G20 Summit, Indonesia also collaborated with the United States in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) scheme. In the PGII scheme, the mobilization of funding from the United States over the next five years for infrastructure development in developing countries reaches USD 600 billion. Indonesia has also obtained a commitment from the Just Energy Transition Program (JETP). Where the G7 countries provide funds of USD 20 billion or around IDR 311 trillion over the next 3 to 5 years to finance projects that support emission reduction. Airlangga further said that the ongoing geopolitical turmoil in Russia and Ukraine had greatly affected the increase in energy and food prices due to supply disruptions and financial losses. Several countries have suffered financial losses not only due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, but also because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In facing the impact of the war, Indonesia has a fairly good resilience. "So specifically for Indonesia, we already have resilience. One, food. We produce relatively well, namely 31 million tons of rice every year. Then second, related to fertilizer, we can also export 2 million tons of urea, so relative to fertilizer even safe," said Airlangga.
