The Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki stated that the G20 forum was a momentum for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) products, especially those from Garut, to access the global market, even entering the digital market. "Besides being known as a worldwide quality leather industry producer, Garut also has a variety of unique products that are not inferior to Europe, and are even capable of producing other superior products such as essential oils as wellness products," Teten said in a statement in Jakarta, Monday. This statement was conveyed by Teten in The Future SMEs Village activity as a side event of the Indonesian G20 Presidency, namely a fashion show entitled "The Magnificent Garut". The activity which took place at the Bali Collection, Bali, was held with the aim of introducing the uniqueness and wisdom of the culture of Garut, West Java, through the application of modern fashion at the G20 forum, Bali. According to him, Garut's great potential must be supported through various strategic programs, both in developing products to compete in national and international markets.
On the same occasion, Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan revealed that The Magnificent Garut could become a place for local Garut artisans to work, as well as collaborate with the government and various well-known designers. According to Rudy, this event was able to show the great potential that Garut has, especially in the international quality fashion industry. "The potential of the Garut fashion industry is ready to go global, one of which is evidenced by the exhibition in Italy that we participated in some time ago to be able to produce a cooperation agreement for leather products for a period of 10 years," said Rudy. Chairperson of the Indonesian Fashion Entrepreneurs Designers Association (APPMI) Poppy Darsono said that Garut's fashion products were not inferior to products from world-renowned brands. Therefore, creativity and seriousness are needed in raising the potential of the Garut fashion industry so that it can compete globally. Poppy also expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs for providing space for local designers, especially Garut, to present international quality local fashion products. "Through the Future SMEs Village, we can display our work, and at the same time I hope to be able to inspire other local designers to dare to take the opportunity to bring their regional specialties to the world stage," he said.
