Anggana Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, in 2021 was exported 1,800 tons of mangrove crabs to various countries, so this made a great opportunity for local residents to continue to develop, along with high market demand. "Countries that are export destinations for mangrove crabs from Anggana include Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and a few to Australia," said a lecturer at the Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at Mulawarman University Samarinda Ismail Fahmy Almadi when he was a resource person for crab cultivation training in Anggana, on Tuesday. Mangrove crab exports from Anggana to a number of these destination countries had dropped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 storm, especially at that time there was also an issue that the COVID-19 virus could be transmitted through fish or crabs sent between countries, so that the weakening of crab commodity exports was more complete. In 2020, he continued, mangrove crab was exported from Anggana were only 195 tons, but in 2021 it was increased to 1,800 tons, cultivators together with fishermen and crab exporters rose from adversity even though at that time the COVID-19 storm had not completely subsided, while exports in January-August 2022 still 895 tons. He explained that the large crab production in Anggana could not be separated from the level of fertility in the Mahakam Delta, namely the area is rich in humus or top soil that gathers in the delta. This fertility rate is an important role for the flow of the Mahakam River which has a length of 980 km, flowing from Mahakam Ulu Regency which borders East Malaysia to the sea estuary in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. From this high fertility, he continued, then in the Mahakam Delta overgrown with various types of mangroves, while crabs prefer to live in mangroves, because mangroves are not only a place for crabs to live there, but also a lot of food there. While the training on mangrove crab cultivation which was held for seven days on November 7-13, he became one of the resource persons for appropriate technology innovation (TTG), so that mangrove crabs are not only cultivated in mangrove ponds, but also indoors and in limited land. Through the Crab Cultivation TTG Workshop held by the East Kalimantan Community Empowerment and Village Administration (DPMPD), he said, the community could further increase crab productivity. The increase in production occurs because the land is much smaller, but the number of crabs raised can be more, even the size can also be adjusted because this cultivation uses a hydroponic system.
