PT Perikanan Indonesia is consistent in boosting exports of the main fishery products of the octopus and cuttlefish species, which are the belle of America and Japan in the third quarter of 2022. President Director of PT Perikanan Indonesia Sigit Muhartono said the company exports octopus to two destination countries, namely the United States and Japan. Both export processes were sent by sea from Makassar, South Sulawesi, and Simeulue, Aceh. "The export of this cephalopod product is the result of the hard work of the entire team of PT Perikanan Indonesia to boost export performance in 2022," he said in an official statement, Tuesday (11/8/2022). The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) noted that the export value of fishery products in Indonesia during January-September reached USD 4.61 billion or around IDR 71.8 trillion (exchange rate of IDR 15,596). The export realization reached 64.65% of the 2022 target. The main commodities that contributed to the export achievement included shrimp, tuna-tuna-skippers, squid-octopus, seaweed, and crab-crab with a total value of USD 3.68 billion or growing positive 14.48% (yoy).
PT Perikanan Indonesia Makassar Branch sent 17.9 tons of cephalopod products to the United States with a capitalization of USD177,500. The three types of commodities exported are Octopus Steam, Whole Cleaned Cuttlefish, and Ball Type Octopus. PT Perindo supplies a request from a fish trading company in the state of Georgia, USA. Meanwhile, for the Simeulue unit, Aceh, his party sent 15 tons of Octopus Cynea Gray to a fishing company in Japan. Shipments to Japan are routine exports of PT Perikanan Indonesia every month from January 2022 to October 2022 and will continue until the end of the year. Sigit said that his party is committed to meeting requests from overseas buyers to increase the company's revenue. This is because the volume of foreign trade or exports of PT Perikanan Indonesia contributes about 10% of the total production compared to domestic fish trade in the country. "Our roadmap in the future will expand the market overseas," he added. Currently, the export reach of PT Perikanan Indonesia has spread to nine countries, including the United States, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Egypt, Singapore, and South Korea. KKP also noted that America and Japan are the main export destinations of Indonesian fishery products. In general, in terms of the trade balance, Indonesian fisheries experienced a surplus during January-September 2022 of USD 4.09 billion with an export value of USD 4.61 billion, an increase of 13.72% yoy and imports of USD 0.52 billion. As previously reported, the Director General of Aquaculture KKP TB. Haeru Rahayu said that his party is optimistic that it can achieve the export target of fishery products in 2022 of USD 7.13 billion. "I had a discussion with the Directorate General of PDSP [Strengthening Product Competitiveness] because those who hold the data, we are still quite optimistic that we will still have time, God willing," he told the media crew, Wednesday (26/10/2022).
