The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has developed superior broodstock for vaname shrimp to revive the industry. In addition, the development of superior vaname broodstock is carried out to meet the national shrimp production target of 2 million tons by 2024. The development program for superior vaname shrimp broodstock is carried out by the Karangasem Law and Shell Superior Parent Production Center (BPIU2K). The program, named Parent Shrimp Unggul Vaname NuSa Dewa (Nusantara Sakti Dewata), started with a conventional breeding program enriched with molecular markers. With this program, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, also hopes that in the future Indonesia will no longer import. Sakti is also optimistic that Indonesia will become the cultivation sector within the next five years.
"The superior vaname mother shrimp developed by the KKP has the advantages of growing faster, tolerant of disease, and being able to compete with shrimp parent products from other countries," said Sakti in a written statement, quoted by Tempo, Sunday, October 30, 2022. Sakti said there were a number of testimonials stating that the survival of this shrimp reaches 80 to 90 percent. Therefore, if development continues, he is sure that more and more investors will be interested and engaged in parent production. "I'm sure that the extent of Indonesia as a maritime country will certainly dominate the world shrimp market." Director General of KKP Aquaculture, Tb Haeru Rahayu, said that the success of developing superior white shrimp broodstock will answer the needs of cultivators in Indonesia. He is also optimistic that KKP will be able to increase shrimp production. and reduce imports of vaname shrimp broodstock, which so far have quite high volume and value.This development program is aimed at producing genetic resources of shrimp that are adaptive to local conditions in Indonesia so that they can grow fast and be tolerant according to the goals and independence of national shrimp.
