White pepper is one type of commodity that is in great demand in the international market. This spice is often used as an addition to food flavoring to health. According to a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export value of Indonesian white pepper reached USD 92.68 million or IDR 1.44 trillion in 2021. The value rose again after experiencing a decline in the previous year. The increase was recorded at 23.06% compared to 2020 which was USD 75.31 million. However, in terms of weight, the export volume of white pepper decreased from 24.78 thousand tons in 2020 to 18.53 thousand tons in 2021. Vietnam is the country's white pepper export destination with the largest value last year, which was USD 21.99 million. This amount is equivalent to 23.72% of the total national white pepper exports. Next, the export value of white pepper to the United States amounted to USD15.64 million. Followed by Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands with export values of USD 7.81 million, USD 6.33 million and USD 6.26 million, respectively. In trend, the export value of Indonesian white pepper has decreased in the last five years. The highest export value in 2017 reached USD 133.47 million, while the lowest was in 2020.
