Temanggung Wine Arabica Coffee Enters the Dutch Market

A breath of fresh air for the coffee community in Temanggung. At the 2022 International Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) exhibition at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition, Bumi Serpong Damai City (ICE, BSD City), Tangerang, there was an agreement on coffee exports to the Netherlands. The direct export of coffee to the Netherlands was for the first time. The coffee exported is Arabica coffee with a wine process. Unmitigated, the best coffee from Temanggung is priced at USD 12.5 per kilogram in the country of the windmill. Chairman of the Temanggung Coffee Community (Kopi Berteman) Basari Supriyanto said TEI was really used by coffee actors from Temanggung, to promote coffee cultivation and products. The results are impressive. The Dutch immediately bought at a fantastic price. He said that so far coffee sales from Temanggung were still limited through intermediaries. Therefore, TEI, which is a synergy between farmers, the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy and the Ministry of Trade, has produced an achievement that is very rarely obtained, namely coffee farmers directly accessing highly competitive foreign markets. He said, 'Kopi Berteman' consists of farmers, processors and MSMEs of Kopi Temanggung. According to him, an event like this is very beneficial for farmers, because farmers can directly meet buyers from abroad, so there are very significant benefits that are felt by farmers directly. Farmers know firsthand the desires of the world market, so they try to fulfill them.

Deputy Chairperson of the Temanggung Regency DPRD, Muh Amin, said there was a need to encourage coffee producers in Temanggung to improve the quality of coffee beans and the results of the coffee processing. According to him, in an effort to market coffee products, it is hoped that direct contact with the buyer can be made, so that farmers know the advantages and disadvantages of the goods produced. And they can be motivated to fulfill market demands. Another member of Kopi Berteman, Zaenal Arifin, said that during this time, Temanggung Arabica Coffee had already begun to be known by the public, but the obstacle faced by farmers was marketing. Through events like this, he said, it was a moment for farmers and coffee producers from Temanggung to meet with direct buyers. He explained, in the first year of this contract, the Dutch agreed to send one ton of Arabica with the wine process. This coffee will be shipped in November 2022 at a price of USD 12.5 per kilogram. As for the upcoming 2023 harvest, the Netherlands itself has also given an idea that it will take approximately 10 tons of Arabica coffee wine.
