Foreign Investment in Indonesia Sets the Highest Record in History

Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said Indonesia recorded the largest foreign investment (PMA) growth in the third quarter of 2022 in history. The Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) noted that foreign investment into Indonesia reached IDR 168.9 trillion or grew 63.6% compared to the same period the previous year (year on year / yoy). Meanwhile, on a monthly basis only grew 3.5% (mtm). "This is the largest in history. So we grew 63%. Since I entered the BKPM Ministry, I asked if it had not grown this way, it doesn't seem to be found, but we are looking for it," he said at a press conference on the realization of the third quarter investment in his office, Monday (24/10).

According to him, FDI growth is indeed higher than Domestic Investment (PMDN) which was recorded at IDR 138.9 trillion or only grew 22.5% (yoy) and slightly decreased by 0.05% (mtm) in the third quarter of 2022. This indicates that Indonesia is still attractive in the eyes of foreign investors. "Now this republic is like a beautiful girl who is liked by foreign investors to build investment in Indonesia. And this can also happen because there is political stability," he explained. In addition, he said the investment that grew until the third quarter increased the government's confidence that the investment target by the end of the year could be achieved according to the target of IDR 1,200 trillion. This is in line with the policies that the government continues to implement to facilitate incoming investment. "Then there is also trust in the leadership of the president, then the government's focus is on consistently building the direction of investment policy," he concluded. In detail, there are five main investment sectors that investors are interested in during the third quarter of 2022. First, the basic metal, metal goods, non-machinery and equipment industry is IDR 44 trillion. Second, the transportation, warehouse and telecommunications sectors amounting to IDR 32.5 trillion. Third, the housing sector, industrial estates, and offices amounted to IDR 28.9 trillion. Fourth, the mining sector of IDR 28.3 trillion. Fifth, the electricity, gas and water sector in the third quarter realized an investment of IDR 27.3 trillion.
