The Government of Pasangkuyu Regency will be one of the areas for the Shrimp Estate priority program from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of the Republic of Indonesia. This was stated by the Director General of Fisheries and Cultivation of the KKP, TB Haeru Rahayu before the Regent of Pasangkayu Yaumi Ambo Djiwa, accompanied by the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of West Sulawesi, Dr. Junda, the Head of Fisheries Service of Pasangkayu, Kartini, and members of the Marine and Fisheries Department of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the ranks of the Regional Development Planning Agency and the Marine and Fisheries Department of West Sulawesi at the Regent’s house of Pasangkayu, Monday (10/24/2022). Yaumil said that at the beginning of his reign as the Regent of Pasangkayu, he would continue to seek all loopholes for the welfare of the people of Pasangkayu Regency, including planning to prepare 1500 ha of land for the Shrimp Estate program from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. He continued that the Shrimp Estate program is an exact program in Pasangkayu Regency to encourage shrimp cultivation, as one of the whiteleg shrimp-producing areas in West Sulawesi. “The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries together with the regional government plan to build a 1500-ha shrimp estate, as a model for the whiteleg shrimp industry in Pasangkayu Regency,” he said. He added that Pasangkayu Regency is a very potential area for shrimp development. It is evident that currently the interest of investors to build whiteleg shrimp ponds is quite high.
Yaumil revealed that the first step for the Pasangkayu Government would be to try to prepare fresh land, by conducting an inventory through the village and sub-district governments so that the Ministry’s expectations can be realized, especially the development of shrimp estates must go through business planning and careful studies so that the economic value generated is high and the surrounding environment is well maintained. "If we can realize this properly, it will be a trigger for economic growth for the welfare of the surrounding community, and will also be able to increase the income of regional and state governments," he said. At the end of his explanation, according to Yaumil, the shrimp estate will also become a business model that can be imitated by some people who have been managing whiteleg shrimp ponds conventionally. "I quickly formed an acceleration team in the implementation of Shrimp Estate activities, because it is very good for improving the economic welfare of the community. In addition, a lot of energy will be absorbed and the economic cycle will be smooth, automatically the regional economy of Pasangkayu Regency will increase," concluded Yaumil.
