The North Luwu Regency Government (Pemkab) is intensifying the development of export commodities to improve people's welfare. "The North Luwu Regency Government pays special attention to export commodities developed by farmers," said the Head of the North Luwu Regency Agriculture Office, Rusydi Rasyid, during his visit to Makassar on Sunday (10/23/2022). He said one of the efforts to encourage farmers to cultivate export commodities is to provide support, both in terms of procurement of production facilities and counseling. As an illustration, he said, a sustainable cocoa road map has been made for the cocoa plantation area in North Luwu. "The goal is that farmers who have been developing cocoa do not switch to other crops," he said again.
Through the cocoa roadmap, all farmers have mapped their agricultural activities. This was confirmed by one of the cocoa farmers in North Luwu, Hariansyah. He said that farmers' cocoa production, apart from having to deal with the problem of cocoa pod borer (PBK), also had to deal with the age of the cocoa plants which are now mostly old, so plant rejuvenation is needed. Based on data from the North Luwu Agriculture Office, it is known that the number of cocoa farmers in this area is recorded at 26,587 households (KK). The average cocoa production varies from 670 kilograms per hectare to 1,200 kg/ha.
