The Central Statistics Agency Said Indonesia’s Rice Production Up to 32 Million Tons, Here's the Data

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that rice production in 2022 for the population's food consumption is estimated at around 32.07 million tons. The Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS Setianto explained that this figure experienced an increase of 718.03 thousand tons or 2.29% compared to rice production in 2021 which was 31.36 million tons. He explained that the highest rice production in 2022 will occur in March, which is 5.49 million tons. Meanwhile, the lowest rice production is estimated to occur in January, which is 1.42 million tons. "This condition is slightly different from 2021, where the highest rice production occurred in March, but the lowest rice production occurred in December 2021," he said at a press conference, Monday (17/10/2022).


BPS also noted that the rice harvested area in 2022 is estimated at 10.61 million hectares, an increase of 194.71 thousand hectares or 1.87% compared to the rice harvested area in 2021 which is 10.41 million hectares. Rice production in 2022 is estimated at 55.67 million tons of milled dry grain (GKG), an increase of 1.25 million tons GKG or 2.31% compared to rice production in 2021 which is around 54.42 million tons GKG. The highest rice production in 2021 and 2022 will occur in March. Meanwhile, the lowest rice production in 2022 will occur in January and the lowest rice production in 2021 will occur in December. Rice production in March 2022 was 9.54 million tons GKG, while rice production in January 2022 was 2.46 million tons GKG. The three provinces with the highest total rice production (GKG) in 2022 are East Java, West Java, and Central Java. Meanwhile, the three provinces with the lowest rice production are Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, and West Papua. "A sizeable increase in rice production in 2022 will occur in several areas of rice production centers such as West Java, South Sulawesi and South Sumatra," he said. On the other hand, several provinces experienced a significant decline in rice production, for example South Kalimantan, East Java, and Aceh.
