The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) with PT Kereta Api Logistik (Railway Logistics) signed a Cooperation Agreement and launched Fisheries Logistics using the Train Mode at Kalimas Station, Surabaya, Wednesday (12/10/2022). This cooperation agreement serves as the basis for the implementation of optimizing access to transportation and distribution of marine and fishery products, which is an important element in strengthening fish logistics. The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out by the Secretary General of the KKP, Antam Nivambar and the President Director of Indonesia Railway Logistics, TLN Ahmad Malik Syah at Kalimas Station Surabaya, along with the launching of fishery logistics using the train mode. Secretary General of the KKP Antam Novambar said that one of the KKP's priority programs was the implementation of quota-based Measured Fishing in six fishing zones and the development of environmentally friendly aquaculture. From the upstream side, KKP targets to increase quality fishery production to meet the community’s need for animal protein and nutrition from fish. “The nature of fishery products that are easily damaged and decrease in quality if not handled properly, especially handling during transportation, requires logistics performance and a reliable cold chain system,” said Antam. There are many stakeholders who came to witness KKP with PT Kereta Api Logistik launching the Delivery of Fishery Products by Train mode, carrying a cargo of fishery products for 38 TEUs or around 570 tons with the destination of Kampung Bandan Station in Jakarta which will then be distributed to frozen warehouses or units Fish Processing.
Antam added that the marine and fisheries sector breakthrough program implemented by the KKP carried out the blue economy principle to achieve a balance between sustainable ecological management, sustainable economic value, and achieving community welfare. Capture fisheries and aquaculture as upstream production of this sector need to be supported by competitive capabilities on the downstream side so that they can be sustainable with the demands of providing effective and efficient transportation services. In the same place, Acting Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) Ishartini said that Surabaya was indeed a pilot project for the zero point of distribution of fishery logistics using the train mode. She reports fish traffic data that in 2021 as many as 109.46 thousand tons entered the Tanjung Perak Port consisting of 78.58 thousand tons for consumption with the main commodities being scad fish, shrimp, tuna, and other fish. Meanwhile, 30.88 thousand tons are for non-consumption, with the main commodities being seaweed and pearl shells. “The seven ports for loading fishery products above include those from Timika, Tarakan, Makassar, Ambon, Bitung, Kendari, Dobo, and other Eastern Indonesia regions,” explained Ishartini. Ishartini added that shipments of fishery products using trains in 2021 reached 1,549 TEUs and in 2022 as of August reached 1,036 TEUs. KKP hopes that this number will increase along with the development of the marine and fisheries sector. "Therefore, distribution and transportation using trains are expected to better support the marine and fisheries sector, as well as fishery business actors, considering that fishery products are perishable good commodities," said Ishartini. Meanwhile, the President Director of KAI Logistics, TLN Ahmad Malik Syah, warmly welcomes the realization of this collaboration. He said that KAI Logistics had prepared 1,200 refrigerated containers. Through this collaboration, KAI Logistik hopes to be a pioneer as a transporter for fishery distribution using reefer containers or LCL (Less Than Container Load) with the support of other facilities, especially logistics terminals equipped with electricity plugging supply and ensuring temperature resistance in ensuring product quality in reefer containers.
