Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan encouraged the glory of the archipelago’s famous spice route since the 16th century when he inaugurated the 2022 Sail Tidore event. “Sail Tidore this time has the theme Sail Tidore - Tidore: A World Heritage City, the Bond of Nations. It is hoped that it will be able to push back Indonesia’s glory as a spice route for the archipelago,” said the Minister of Trade in Jakarta, Tuesday. It is known that the Indonesian spice route is being echoed in the Spice Up The World (ISUTW) program which involves many parties, including the central and local governments, businessmen, academics, communities, and the media. In addition to encouraging the presence of Indonesian cuisine abroad, this program also targets to have 4,000 Indonesian restaurants overseas and increase the export value of spices and herbs to USD 2 billion. As the head of the organizer of the Sail Tidore event, the Minister of Trade said that the Ministry of Trade will fully support the event so that it will be held successfully.
Zulkifli also reminded the importance of Tidore as a history of Indonesian trade routes, where Tidore was an old kingdom that had close trade relations with Sumatra, the Sultanate of Aceh, Deli, Banten, Cirebon, Kudus, and Pontianak, considering that North Maluku was one of the spice routes. Meanwhile, North Maluku Governor Abdul Ghani Kasuba said that the local government would support the event with promotions and publications. The goal is for Tidore and North Maluku to the international community and to disseminate it to the world community. “The Provincial Government of North Maluku, especially the City of Tidore Islands, welcomes and is ready to make Sail Tidore in 2022 a success,” he said. Abdul Ghani assessed that the Sail Tidore 2022 event would contribute to developing regional tourism and increasing small and medium business transactions, increasing awareness of regional culture, and regional transportation. “The whole program is in line with the program of President Joko Widodo and the ministers who attended. Thank you very much for your care and concern,” said Abdul Ghani. The launch of Sail Tidore was also attended by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadi Muljono, and Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces General Andika Perkasa. Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan delivered his remarks virtually.
