Indonesia’s wood products exports in 2021 reached USD 13.5 billion which is the highest export value in Indonesia’s history. During the last seven years or since 2015 Indonesia’s exports of wood products have shown a consistently increasing trend. In 2015 Indonesia’s exports of processed wood products were still at USD 8 billion. Meanwhile, data from the Ministry of Environment noted that in 2019, the export value of Indonesia’s forest industry reached USD 11.6 billion. The largest exports are aimed at China, South Korea, the United States, Japan, and the European Union. Indonesia exports a lot of products such as furniture, handicrafts, prefabricated buildings, wood chips, panels, paper, veneer, and woodworking. Indonesia is known to be the largest producer of jabon and sengon wood in the world, which are in great demand by the global market.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI), Purwadi Soeprihanto explained that the increase in exports of Indonesian processed wood products in 2021 cannot be separated from Indonesia’s ability to implement a credible Timber Verification and Legality System (SVLK) so that it gains global market trust. "The exported processed wood products are already SVLK certified, I see the market trust is quite large because Indonesia has a credible national system and was built with a long process, involving many parties," said Purwadi in Nusa Dua, Monday (10/10/2022). APHI is optimistic that Indonesia’s exports of processed wood products will continue to increase in line with the ongoing economic recovery, and increasing global confidence in the management of forest areas in Indonesia. Indonesia also continues to systematically improve forest area management by involving many parties such as businessmen, indigenous people, and forest conservation communities.
