The quality of Banyuwangi coffee in East Java is already recognized, including the type of civet coffee. With a distinctive and elegant taste, Banyuwangi civet coffee has penetrated the United States export market. The Banyuwangi civet coffee that was sent to the United States is Robusta civet coffee, produced by Omah Kopi Telemung, owned by Imam Mukhlis, in Telemung Village, Kalipuro District, Banyuwangi. “Alhamdulillah, since 2 months ago, we have started exporting civet coffee to the United States,” he said, Monday (10/10/2022). Banyuwangi civet coffee was quite attractive to coffee lovers in America. The number of requests continues to increase. Originally, only 20 kilograms of civet coffee per month, now it has reached 60 kilograms. Even though exports are still at 60 kilograms, the resulting rupiah value reaches millions of rupiah. “Besides America, before the Covid-19 pandemic, we also exported civet coffee to Dubai. At that time we exported up to 500 kilograms,” said Imam, the owner of Omah Kopi Telemung. Most civet coffee is produced through civet breeding. Unlike the civet coffee produced by Omah Kopi Telemung, here, civet coffee is produced from wild civets, with the mongoose that lives in the wild in the coffee plantations in the Telemung Village area, Kalipuro District. So it’s no wonder that the civet coffee that is created has a distinctive taste and aroma, and more natural and superior in quality.
In addition to being an exporter of civet coffee to the United States, Omah Kopi Telemung is also a coffee supplier for coffee shop entrepreneurs throughout Banyuwangi with a good turnover that can sell up to IDR 30 million monthly. Through Omah Kopi Telemung, Imam produces various types of coffee such as arabica, robusta, ekselsa, and civet coffee, including tea from coffee skin. For coffee, purchases are served in the form of raw coffee beans to packaged powder. The prices set are also very pocket-friendly, depending on the form of the order. Raw robusta coffee is priced at IDR 45 thousand per kilogram, raw Ekselsa coffee is set at IDR 55 thousand per kilogram, and the cheapest packaged ground coffee is sold at IDR 20 thousand per 100 grams. As a vehicle for promoting coffee products as well as an effort to support the growth and development of the tourism sector, Omah Kopi Telemung has also developed special tour packages, namely the Coffee Tour package. There, tourists are invited to see firsthand the process of making coffee. Starting from seeing the coffee garden, picking, drying, roasting, and brewing their coffee.
