Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan claimed that Indonesia had become one of the strongest economies in the world today. "But we also cannot avoid that the situation in Ukraine, tensions that are not certain when it will be resolved, have an impact on food and energy," said Luhut at the National Maritime Day event on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. In addition, according to him, the tension between China and Taiwan also has a lot of impact on the world economy. Like it or not, he said, the geopolitical conditions will also have an impact on Indonesia. "We are grateful that until today with President Jokowi's leadership we are still able to reduce this situation, but the question is how long can we do it?" he said. On the other hand, he expressed his belief that Indonesia is united, one language in this very crucial situation, where the world is predicted to enter a global crisis or perfect storm. "Yesterday I was in New York, they said that the world will enter a global crisis or perfect storm that will occur in the near future," he said.
Therefore, he stressed that the government must now manage the country well. With Jokowi's leadership, according to him, if all elements unite, they can reduce the impact of the crisis on Indonesia. He said the Fed would raise interest rates to 4.75 by the end of the year. This will have an impact on the Indonesian economy. Indonesia's inflation, he said, was still at 4.9, with core inflation at 2.8. But the condition of food is now problematic. Although inflation is quite high, Luhut said the government has cooperated to overcome the impact according to President Jokowi's instructions. "Let's button our sleeves more efficiently, more compactly, more cohesively to face challenges that we cannot avoid," said Luhut. According to Luhut, like it or not, the crisis will happen. But with what Indonesia has now, he said, the observers he met in New York have given an appreciation of Indonesia's economic condition. In particular, the handling of the Indonesian economy is considered very good. Meanwhile, he said Indonesia's gold target in 2045 should be used as a momentum for maritime glory, as the world's maritime center country. Luhut said the world forecast states that Indonesia will become one of the world's four major economies in 2045-2050.
