Open Global Forum AMM G20, Minister of Agriculture Invites the World to Implement Digital Agriculture

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia (Mentan RI), Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), invited the world to implement digital technology in the agricultural sector. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture when opening the Global Forum activity as the beginning of a series of activities for the G20 Indonesia Agriculture Ministers Meeting (AMM), at the Intercontinental Hotel Jimbaran Bali with the theme "Digital Agricultural Transformation in Accelerating Women and Youth Entrepreneurship", Tuesday (27/9/2022). "Technology and digitalization are the answer to the progress of the world's agricultural sector. Indonesia itself is currently carrying modern independent advanced agriculture. Therefore, at this global forum meeting we can share perspectives on our efforts to increase the capacity of young people and women in implementing digital agriculture,” said Minister of Agriculture SYL. According to SYL, these young entrepreneurs can become innovative entrepreneurs through their roles as producers, distributors, marketers, and sellers by using innovative technology and business models.


The involvement of talented young entrepreneurs, including women, in agricultural development has become the main agenda in many countries, including the G20 member countries. In this regard, many countries, including Indonesia, have made various efforts to understand the distinctive characteristics of young entrepreneurs, create a conducive working environment for them, and identify the best methods to develop their talents. SYL also said that Indonesia is ready to cooperate with other countries, especially in dealing with the food crisis. Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Qu Dongyu also supports world cooperation. When giving his keynote speech, Qu said that it takes a commitment to make the world's agriculture better. So it takes a way of working that is efficient, effective, and innovative. Qu reiterated his support for Indonesia's efforts to develop a national e-agriculture strategy including guidelines for agricultural data integrity in the use of geospatial information. He also praised the establishment of the Agriculture War Room at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, which uses advanced digital technology to improve decision-making based on data and field evidence. The Global Forum discussion was opened by the submission of a short statement from the minister of agriculture and representatives from Turkey, Canada, the United States, Italy, and South Africa, followed by a panel discussion. The first session of the panel discussion was filled by IFAD, CGIAR, GIZ, and MAFF-Japan. While the second session was filled with start-ups and global companies, namely PT Bali Organic Subak from Indonesia, Pinduoduo from China, AgUnity from Australia, and Microsoft Indonesia.
