Small and Medium Industry (IKM) assisted by the Ministry of Industry, CV Nusantara Jaya Food, made the first export of processed cassava products to Curacao with the Real Green brand. The Director General of Small, Medium, and Multifarious Industries (Dirjen IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita said, “With the technology that has been developed, IKM assisted by the Directorate General of IKMA of the Ministry of Industry can meet the quality standards of export destination countries, so that they can penetrate the world market and carry out initial exports to Curacao with their own brand namely ‘Real Green,’” Jakarta, Sunday (25/9/2022). She added that the company’s frozen cassava product from Malang has also entered the European market, one of which is the Netherlands by using a white label (a product sold by retailers with their brand and logo, but the product is produced by a third party).
Frozen cassava exports from Indonesia have been quite encouraging. Trademap data released in 2021 states that throughout 2020 Indonesia has exported frozen cassava (HS 071410) as many as 16,529 tons with a value of USD 9.7 million. This value increased rapidly by 135% (year on year) compared to 2019 which was 4,829 tons with an export value of USD 4.1 million. “Indonesia also exports processed cassava in other forms such as chips, cassava starch, and mokaf,” she added. Reni also explained that the global market wants good quality cassava products with specifications of white color, not bitter, low in cyanide, and fresh when received. With the potential of Indonesia’s natural resources and existing market opportunities, the Ministry of Industry encourages SMEs to be more active in developing innovations to produce alternative food products that produce carbohydrates other than rice and corn. “We continue to encourage SMEs to innovate to produce alternative carbohydrate-producing food products, both for domestic needs and export,” said Reni.
