The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that the total investment in the metal smelter industry in Indonesia has now reached around USD 49 billion. Director of Metal Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Liliek Widodo, said that this achievement indicates that the domestic mineral processing and refining industry has developed. "At present, the total investment in the metal smelter industry is worth around USD 49 billion, and is able to absorb nearly 200 thousand workers," said Liliek when opening the International Metal Technology (IMT) Indonesia and Fabrication Technology Indonesia (FTI) 2022 exhibition at the Jakarta International Expo. Liliek revealed that the success of the natural resource-based mineral downstream program will have an even better impact if it can be continued into the intermediate and downstream industrial sectors. "For example, with the establishment of nickel-based industrial clusters in Morowali and in Halmahera, which are complete from upstream to intermediate, which actually reaches stainless steel, it can provide a sizeable foreign exchange contribution where exports of stainless-based intermediate products in 2021 will reach around USD 10 billion. And until the second quarter of 2022, it has reached USD 6 billion," said Liliek. Furthermore, Liliek highlighted the holding of the IMT and FTI exhibitions this year which is a momentum and a benchmark that the metal industry in Indonesia has risen after a similar exhibition was not held for the past two years. "In addition, we hope that this exhibition can encourage the acceleration of downstream policies and the development of natural resources based on minerals and coal in the country to provide the maximum benefit to the Republic of Indonesia and the community," said Liliek. The IMT and FTI exhibitions are exhibitions that showcase innovative trends and market developments for the metal processing, foundry and fabrication industries organized by PT Pelita Promo Internusa (PPI). This exhibition will take place on September 21-23 2022 at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran. Director of PT Pelita Promo Internusa, Rini Sumardi, said in addition to the exhibition, this event also presents metal technology and innovation conferences, seminars from industry associations, global academics, government and experts. "It is hoped that this exhibition will become a valuable platform that presents quality solutions from international and local industry leaders, and will provide solutions for government programs and can meet the increasing needs of domestic industry in the future," said Rini.
