The Bengkulu Province Horticulture and Plantation Food Crops Service (TPHP) has begun to develop red ginger cultivation in Bengkulu Province to meet the needs of the export market. Head of TPHP Ricky Gunarwan said the potential for red ginger in Bengkulu must be optimized immediately, especially because of its high productivity, Tuesday (20/9/2022). The production of red ginger can reach an average of 20 tons with a land area of two hectares in the Lebong Regency. “This red ginger plant can be developed as an intercropping plant and has the potential to be exported,” said Ricky. He added that there are three areas suitable for planting red ginger in Bengkulu Province, namely Kepahiang Regency, Lebong Regency, and Rejang Lebong Regency.
Meanwhile, one of the ginger farmers in Lebong Atas District, Jun (34) said that red ginger cultivation is very productive because red ginger does not depend on the season and weather, but needs to be planted in high areas and sandy soil conditions. Red ginger can be created with various types such as medicinal ingredients, processed foods or drinks, and flavoring. The implementation of red ginger cultivation does not require a large capital. Only with a capital of around IDR 10 million for the purchase of seeds, it can generate income of up to IDR 10 million per hectare.
