Bali Routinely Exports Cocoa to Foreign Markets

The province of Bali is not only famous for its beautiful tourist attractions. However, Bali has excellent cocoa centers that have the potential for export to fill foreign markets. One of the cooperatives in Bali that regularly exports cocoa is the Kerta Semaya Samaniya Cocoa Cooperative. I Ketut Wiadnyana, the chairman of the cooperative, said that the cooperative he leads regularly exports 0.5-15.5 tons of cocoa per year. The export destinations include France, the Netherlands, the United States, Japan, Switzerland, and Belgium. According to him, the success of cocoa exports is due to the perseverance and joint commitment of farmer groups and cooperatives.

The Kerta Semaya Samaniya Coca Cooperative was established on May 8th, 2006 and now has 609 certified members. The cooperative has reduced its processed cocoa products, such as cocoa nibs which are sold to local PT Bali, 1 ton of kul-kul cocoa per month, and 100 kilograms of Bali Varenyam per month. Future targets are not just nibs. He admitted that he was working on the production and export of processed chocolate products with higher added value. In this way, cocoa farmers who are members of the cooperative can gain significant and stable profits. “Cooperatives also continue to assist farmers, provide advocacy advice and through assistance from cooperatives, they can change the mindset of planters to pay more attention to upstream and to downstream processes so that their production and productivity are of good quality and competitive,” he explained as quoted from the ditjenbun.pertanian.go.page.id. He hopes that in the future there will be support for supporting equipment such as machines with a larger capacity so that cooperatives and planters can sell pasta, butter, and powder, both locally and for export.
Meanwhile, Tasks Executor of The Director of Processing and Marketing of Plantation Products, Baginda Siagian, appreciated the steps taken by the Kerta Cocoa Cooperative Semaya Samaniya. According to him, other cocoa centers need to replicate the concepts and systems implemented by the Kerta Semaya Samaniya Cocoa Cooperative, such as building strong partnerships. “It is also necessary to strengthen branding through promotions, and the Directorate of General of Plantations will be present in this aspect to help promote,” he said.
