Vice President Ma’ruf Amin wants the sports industry in Indonesia not only to produce healthy lifestyles and outstanding athletes but also to contribute to economic growth. He conveyed it when he was inaugurating the opening of the 39th National Sports Day (Haornas) 2022 at Batakan Stadium, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, Friday (9/9/2022). “This vision requires building a synergy between the central and local governments, the business world and industry, the media and academia, as well as the wider community including athletes and coaches,” he said. Ma’ruf added that the spirit of building national sports must continue to be inflamed because it provides a lot of meaning in life such as uniting differences and promoting equality. More than that, it’s also able to build discipline, toughness, sportsmanship, and cooperation which are all useful in the lives of individuals, society, nation, and state.
Therefore, the Head of the Coordinating Team for the National Sports Design Center (DBON) also explained that this year’s Haornas theme, namely “Together Scoring Champions”, he believes is an invitation for all Indonesians to increase participation and achievements in the field of sports. To the educators and coaches, the Vice President asked them to seriously raise the seeds of national sports talent, so the nation’s dignity would be raised through the achievements of athletes on the world stage that requires continuous guidance based on science. He also re-emphasized the importance of using sports science remarkably so the athletes will be more well maintained and achieve better. “I invite all stakeholders to collaborate in building a modern and conducive ecosystem for the growth of the national sports industry,” concluded Ma’ruf.
