The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) reported that domestic motorcycle sales reached 524,821 units in August 2022. This realization increased by around 60.76% (month-on-month) compared to July 2022 which was 326,452 units. This achievement also increased by around 11.64% (year-on-year) compared to sales in August 2021 which amounted to 470,065 units. Similar to domestic sales, motorcycle exports also experienced an increase. As of August 2022, its export sales volume reached 75,481 units, an increase of 5.68% (month-on-month). Meanwhile, sales increased by 2.66% (year-on-year) if viewed on an annual basis.
Cumulatively, domestic motorcycle sales during the January-August 2022 period reached 3,097,900 units. Meanwhile, the total volume of motorcycle exports from Indonesia reached 493,448 units in the same period. Based on the category, the sales of scooters made the highest contribution from domestic and export sales. Scooter motorcycle sales accounted for 87.53% of total domestic sales and contributed 70.30% of total exports. The sales of underbone motorcycles contributed 6.92% of total domestic sales and 10.74% of total exports, and the proportion of sport motorcycle sales was recorded at 5.55% of total domestic sales and 18.96% of total exports.
