Indonesia wants to be the location of the Netherlands' largest investment in Southeast Asia (ASEAN). "Currently (Dutch investment) is the largest in Malaysia and Vietnam," said the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands Mayerfas when met in The Hague, Netherlands, last Saturday (3/9). Mayerfas said the Netherlands tends to place capital-intensive investments in other countries. "We want to attract it in Indonesia and make Indonesia a base for market development in the ASEAN region," he said. According to Mayerfas, Indonesia actually already has an attractive investment ecosystem in various sectors. The investment licensing system is now integrated. For this reason, more massive promotional steps are needed so that Dutch investors know and are interested in taking advantage of the ecosystem. One of them is by opening the Indonesian Promotion Agency in Amsterdam which is targeted to operate this year. "We will open an Indonesian Promotion Board in Amsterdam for cultural, economic, trade and investment missions," he said. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Netherlands is the largest foreign investor from Europe in Indonesia. Investments from the country of windmills are also always in the top 10. In 2021, the realization of Dutch investment will reach USD 1.76 billion or 51% of the portion of European investment in Indonesia. The figure jumped 23.9% from the previous year, USD 1.42 billion. In addition to investment, the Netherlands is also Indonesia's main trading partner in Europe. BPS noted that last year, Indonesia's trade surplus with the Netherlands reached USD 3.78 billion, an increase of 63.6% from the previous year, USD 2.31 billion. "All our (Indonesian) goods in Europe can be said to come from the Netherlands," said Mayerfas.
