The Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center has ensured that exports of porang (a type of tuber) commodity from South Sulawesi will continue to be sustainable by supervising several factories after the reopening of porang exports to China. As an effort to accelerate the export of porang (Amorphophallus muelleri), Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Head Lutfie Natsir visited a factory owned by PT. Insan Agro Sejahtera (IAS) in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, Monday (12/9/2022). He did monitoring the porang export at PT IAS with officials from the Makassar Agricultural Quarantine before leaving for China. “We continue to monitor the sustainability of this porang export, so we can monitor how the porang export is, as PT IAS did. From our monitoring results today, the porang is sufficient for export sustainability in South Sulawesi,” said Lutfie.
PT IAS is one of the companies that received the first phase recommendation submitted by the Agricultural Quarantine Agency to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). Lutfie added that the price of porang in South Sulawesi is relatively significant and the representative has increased since the opening of the porang exports to China. In 2018, exports of porang were recorded at 254 tons with an export value of IDR 11.3 billion to Japan, Vietnam, China, Australia, and other countries. The opening of porang exports gave hope to reviving exports in South Sulawesi. The return of export stretching is also expected to help the economy of porang farmers.
