According to The Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC) data, in 2020 Indonesia will export rubber tires worth US$ 1.55 billion. The achievement placed Indonesia in 6th place in Asia and 15th globally in terms of rubber tire exports. However, in early September 2022, the Indonesia Young Autobus Entrepreneurs Association (IPOMI) stated that the supply of tires in the country was in short supply. It has resulted in increasingly expensive tire prices, making it difficult for the public transportation sector.
Chairman of IPOMI, Kurnia Lesani Adnan, said that the price of tires over the last two years has continued to rise and stocks are often empty, especially for radial types. There is no guarantee whether the goods will be available and when they will be available for transportation entrepreneurs, especially for entrepreneurs whose capital or cash flow isn’t big enough. Adnan assessed that the scarcity of tire supply was partly due to the government’s policy of implementing quota restrictions and a limited ban on tire imports.
