Airlangga Hartarto Says Blue Economy Can Preserve Marine Ecosystems and Support Economic Growth

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, held online closing remarks at the Tri Hita Karana Climate Road to G20 Dialogue with the theme Making History for Climate Action: Unlocking Finance for the Energy Transition and Oceans, Thursday (1/9/2022). In this activity, Airlangga said that the government has a commitment to preserve the sea in Indonesia. Apart from being the largest ecosystem on earth, the sea is also a place where large industries depend, namely shipping, fisheries, aquaculture to coastal tourism. Coordinating Minister Airlangga said that the preservation of marine ecosystems can reduce the impact of climate change through blue economy policies. He also explained that the annual economic value of marine ecosystems reaches USD 2.5 trillion.

Airlangga also explained that currently there are challenges related to how to expand marine sustainability. The government continues to strive to improve sustainable marine practices with local communities through increasing Blue Carbon and implementing Blue Halo-S. "This will require the participation of the private sector and this is where blended financing can be the key to achieving goals through innovative approaches such as the Blue Halo-S concept," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga. By taking into account these financing needs, the Government has entered into partnerships with various local and global parties. Airlangga conveyed that the partnership was held to open up investment towards Tri Hita Karana which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
