The Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (Mipaaf) has opened a EUR 1.5 billion (USD 1.5 billion) incentive scheme that will support the construction of 375 MW of solar parks atop agricultural premises. The programme, launched last week, aims to provide incentives for the installation of photovoltaic (PV) arrays on the roofs of buildings used for agricultural, livestock and agro-industrial purposes. According to the announcement, project developers will be able to submit their applications to state agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici between September 27 and October 27. The initiative is intended to promote investment in the agricultural sector. Last month, Italy received the European Commission’s (EC’s) nod to carry out a EUR 1.2 billion programme for direct grants to agricultural and agro-industrial players willing to install PV panels for self-consumption. The support scheme will run until June 30, 2026. (EUR 1.0 = USD 1.003)
