Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo stated, Garut Regency, West Java is one of the largest coffee-producing areas that are ready to supply 10 million coffee seeds to be planted and developed in other areas throughout Indonesia. "It's great that we agreed on the orders of the President, Garut is ready to provide 10 million coffee seeds for Indonesia," said Minister of Agriculture Syahrul when visiting a coffee nursery in Cikandang Village, Cikajang District, Garut Regency, Sunday. He said that the intervention from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, agreed that coffee seeds from Garut to be spread throughout Indonesia could have a good impact on the development of the coffee business in the country. According to him, the existence of coffee seeds from Garut, then added from various other regions will certainly encourage Indonesia to become the largest coffee producing country at least the top three in the world. "This intervention will be the best thing for this nation, with 10 million new seeds from Garut, not from other places, this will make Indonesia a coffee producer at least the world's top three," he said.
He conveyed the results of the review and direct explanation from Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan, it turned out that the Garut area was ready to become a coffee breeding center which would later be for the benefit of Indonesia. West Java Province, he said, is a national coffee seed producing region with a total production target of 3 million stems by 2022, and currently coffee production continues to grow rapidly, recorded in January-March 2022, the total planting reached 499,000 stems, in April-January 2022 as many as 1.01 million stems, July-September 300,000 stems and October-December reached 900,000 stems. "West Java is in the top 10 coffee development areas in Indonesia, including Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, South Sulawesi, Bali and NTT," said Syahrul. Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan expressed his gratitude for the attention from the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture in developing coffee products in Garut, it is hoped that in the future Garut will become a coffee breeding center for Indonesia.
