North Maluku's Economy Grows the Highest in Indonesia, Supported by the Mining Sector

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), North Maluku became the region whose economy recovered the fastest after the Covid-19 pandemic. North Maluku's economic growth was recorded at 27.4% or the highest in Indonesia. One of the determining factors comes from the mining industry sector. One of the mining industry areas is PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP). Now investment in IWIP continues to increase, from USD5 billion to USD 11 billion. PT IWIP External Manager Cipto Rustianto said support for the community in improving the economy is indeed a special concern for PT IWIP as a mining industry area. "We know that the Covid-19 pandemic can be handled and the economy is starting to recover. Therefore, supporting small and medium-sized businesses is an effort from us in accelerating the recovery," said Cipto in a press statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/23). 8/2022). One of the efforts to continue to restore the economy of North Maluku, said Cipto, is to invite MSMEs to get up together. "One of them is through economic growth efforts through small businesses. Because being part of the economic development of North Maluku is a matter of pride for us," said Cipto. This is also the reason why PT IWIP supports the Thanksgiving Dofu Creative Economy Festival in Tidore, North Maluku, which is held by Gekraf Tidore Islands on 20-21 August 2022. Chairman of Gekraf Tidore Abdul Haris Muhidin said there were two big momentums that became the reason for holding this activity. First, there is the Sail Tidore which will take place in November this year and the movement towards the National Creative Day which will be determined by the government ahead of the G20 later. "We want to open spaces for collaboration, so this Thanksgiving Dofu Ekraf Festival becomes a momentum to develop the potential of MSMEs or creative economic actors in Tidore," said Haris. Not only from Tidore, MSMEs who participated in this activity, said Haris, also came from Central Halmahera and Ternate City. A total of 27 MSMEs participated in these activities. These SMEs are dominated by culinary, craft, and fashion.
