Indonesia's cosmetics market continues to grow. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), cosmetics belonging to the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industry sectors grew 9.61% last year. BPOM also recorded an increase in the number of cosmetic industry companies by 20.6 percent compared to 2021. Last year, there were 819 industries to 913 industries until July 2022. The increase was dominated by SMEs (83%). Seeing this potential, Krista Exhibitions again held the Indo Beauty Expo-K Beauty, Expo Indonesia and Indo Healthcare & INA Shop Expo 2022. This event will be held offline from 25-27 August 2022 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO) Kemayoran, Jakarta. The exhibition, which will be held for three days, will be attended by 120 companies. A number of East Java cosmetic companies also showed products in the annual agenda. With details, 70-80 participants are local companies including 30 MSMEs. Attendees joining the exhibition will showcase different categories of products and equipment in the field of beauty and health globally. Starting from skin care, makeup, hair care, spa and wellness, pharmacy and medicine, traditional medicine, various production machines and product packaging, to aesthetics. Chief Executive Officer of Krista Exhibitions, Daud D Salim said, this exhibition also involved several cosmetic companies from Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. At least 50 Korean cosmetic companies are looking for partners in Indonesia to collaborate in the field of technology transfer to the use of raw materials from Indonesia. "They are very aggressive in entering the Indonesian market," explained Daud during a virtual press conference, Monday (22/8/2022).
Furthermore, Daud explained that the beauty industry, both healthcare and skincare, is a big market in Indonesia. Moreover, he added, towards 2024 the government has launched a program for all cosmetic products to be halal certified. Meanwhile, the Director of Export Development of Creative Services and Products of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Miftah Farid explained, so far exports of cosmetic products have grown by 18 percent compared to last year. This figure is much higher than the annual trend of only about 3.28 percent. Skincare and hair care are the biggest contributors to the export of these cosmetic products. "Last year's skincare was 58 percent, while hair care was 40 percent. This year the first semester is the same proportion of about 60 compared to 40. The rest is perfume and others but the value is very small," explained Miftah.
He explained that more than 50 percent of the export market for Indonesian cosmetic products ran to Asian countries. Such as Thailand, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Japan, India and China. Indonesia is ranked 9th as a country that shows the development of the beauty and pharmaceutical industry. "I think Indonesia can meet global demand. So this exhibition is really the right acceleration and I hope this exhibition can support the increase in non-oil and gas exports in Indonesia," he said. Miftah also hopes that this event will be able to encourage the acceleration of the halal cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia to support President Jokowi's program. The outlook for halal consumption in the world has increased by almost 7 percent or around Rp70 billion. The figure is expected to increase by 7.4 percent per year. On the same occasion, the Daily Chairperson of the Indonesian Association of Entrepreneurs and Cosmetics Associations (PPAK), Kusuma Ida Anjani welcomed the Indo Beauty Expo-K Beauty & Indo Healthcare Expo 2022. "We are proud to be able to participate in Indo Beauty activities offline. Especially for the cosmetics industry, this is an important thing for consumers to be able to feel directly the color, material and texture of the product," he said.
In this event, PPAK collaborated through a demo of local Indonesian products and seminars with material on raising Indonesia's natural wealth as raw material for beauty products.
"This potential is huge to develop. Hopefully, with this event, the innovation of the nation's children can penetrate the global market," he said. Kusuma also explained that the potential of the cosmetics market in Indonesia is still very large. In total, of Indonesia's 270 million people, almost 70 percent are of productive age.
Indonesia is even ranked 2nd in the world for the halal cosmetics industry sector.
"Therefore, this is the right time for us to collaborate," he said.
