Indonesia's Completely Built Up (CBU) Car Exports Soared 167 Percent

Even though in the midst of the increasing number of cases of Covid-19 cases, the performance of the national automotive industry is quite promising. One of the indicators is that the export performance of cars made in Indonesia for the January-June 2022 period skyrocketed quite high, up to 167 percent. According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Indonesia's CBU car exports in the first half of this year were recorded at 393,151 units. Up from the same period in 2021 which was only 147,203 units. One of the reasons for this explosive export performance was the donation of a new brand that started to send cars made by domestic children to foreign countries, namely Hyundai. Based on existing data, PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMID) started consistently sending Creta from February to June, with a score of 12,552 units. This medium-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) made by the Cikarang factory, Bekasi, West Java has managed to penetrate a number of countries and regions, such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.

Throughout the first half of 2022, Toyota still contributed to the largest export of Indonesian CBU cars to foreign markets. Although in terms of production capacity, Daihatsu is the largest for export, but most of the cars shipped use the Toyota emblem or are ordered by Toyota Global. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor recorded a total export of 69,168 units of which the export portion of the car branded with the letter "D" was only recorded, 1,098 units. Exported models are Gran Max pickups and blind vans to Malaysia and Japan. Daihatsu also received a rebadge order from Mazda which markets the same model under the Bongo name in the form of an all-wheel drive (AWD) minibus and pickup, which is 1,153 units. While the rest, 66,917 units are exports of Indonesian CBU cars labeled Toyota, namely Wego, Avanza, Town Ice, Lite Ice, Rush, and Raize. Then there is PT Toyota Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) which recorded exports of 64,642 units. Fortuner is of course the main character, then Avanza, Innova, Veloz, Sienta, Yaris. and Vios. For the record, the export performance of Indonesia's CBU cars will have a significant impact on Indonesia's trade balance, considering the exchange rate of the US dollar against the rupiah continues to strengthen.
