The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the performance of agricultural exports in June 2022 experienced an impressive increase, namely by 23.30% calculated on a monthly basis (M-to-M) and 11.69% calculated on an annual basis (Y-on-Y). The head of BPS, Margo Yuwono, said that the increase was driven by the group of medicinal plants, aromatics, and coffee commodities which both experienced high increases in both the domestic and international markets. "Agriculture has increased quite impressively with the main commodities coming from aromatic medicinal plants, spices, and coffee," said Margo at a press conference held online on Friday, July 15, 2022. The agricultural sector recorded exports worth USD 360 million last June. Thus, the agricultural sector contributed 1.40% of Indonesia's total exports for the month. It should be noted that Indonesia's overall exports in June 2022 reached USD 26.09 billion, an increase of 21.30% compared to the previous month. From this calculation, oil and gas exports increased by 2.45% and non-oil and gas exports by 22.71%. Meanwhile, the calculated national exports increased by 40.68% when calculated on an annual basis. "In detail, annual oil and gas exports increased by 23.68 % and oil and gas increased by 41.89%," he said.
Meanwhile, cumulatively exports from the agricultural sector in January - June this year increased by 13.19% with a total share of 1.57%. For six months, agricultural exports reached USD 2.21 billion. "(Cumulatively) all sectors have increased. The cumulative total share of non-oil and gas also increased by 94.50% ," said Margo. The Head of the Ministry of Agriculture's Public Relations and Public Information Bureau, Kuntoro Boga Andri, emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to work and is committed to increasing national food and agricultural commodity production. Among others, through the provision of quality seeds and seeds for food crops and livestock as well as the use of modern technology. "The government encourages all parties to work together to increase national production, achieve commodity self-sufficiency, and add value to agriculture through export acceleration," said Kuntoro. As is known, since three years ago, Indonesia has managed to maintain maximum rice production so that in the last three years it has not imported general rice. "Whereas exports previously could reach 1.5 to 2 million tons per year," said Kuntoro.
