The volume of North Sumatra's rubber exports from June continues to increase as the impact of smooth shipments of goods. "Delay shipments have been decreasing since June so that export volumes have increased," said Executive Secretary of the North Sumatran Indonesian Rubber Company Association (Gapkindo), Edy Irwansyah in Medan, Monday. Previously, especially since COVID-19 hit, there was a "delay in shipment" due to container difficulties due to the disruption of exports following the closure of several ports of export destination countries. Although there are still shipping delays, but not as much as at the beginning of the year. "Alhamdulillah. In June, export volume has increased by 41 percent from May or to 36,734 tons," said Edy.
In addition to smoother shipments, the increase in exports was also driven by high demand from tire manufacturers. The high demand in June, he said, is usually carried out by tire manufacturers to maintain stock in the second semester. North Sumatra's export destinations in June were 31 countries. The main export destinations of North Sumatra's rubber in June were Japan, Brazil, the United States, Turkey and the People's Republic of China. High demand in June made North Sumatra's rubber export volume in the first semester of 2022 increase, although not too big. The total volume of North Sumatra's rubber exports in the first semester of 2022 rose 1.24 percent compared to the same period in 2021 or became 189,605 tons. "Hopefully, North Sumatra's rubber exports will run smoothly in the second semester," he said. Moreover, said Edy Irwansyah, the average price of SIR 20 rubber is trending higher or in the range of 1.63 US dollars per kg. Even so, said Edy Irwansyah, the export price of rubber is still far from the remuneration level for rubber farmers, which is 2.5 US dollars per kg.
