The export value of the agricultural and industrial sectors of North Sumatra until the first quarter of 2022 rose by 15-20%. This is driven by the improvement in the global economy. The head of the North Sumatra BPS, Nurul Hasanudin, said that in the first quarter of 2022, the export value of the agricultural sector had reached USD 175,743 million compared to the same period in 2021 which was still USD 151,612 million. Meanwhile, the export value of the plantation sector also increased and was even greater at 20.73%. In the first quarter of 2021, North Sumatra's export value was still USD 2.428 billion and the same period in 2022 was USD 2.931 billion.
"The export value of the agricultural and plantation sectors has both increased," said Nurul as quoted by Antara, Wednesday (29/6/2022). The increasing export value is the impact of the continued improvement in the global economy. The economic recovery, he said, made the demand for exports continue to strengthen. The Head of Belawan Agricultural Quarantine, Andi Yusmanto, said that exports from the agricultural sector will continue to be encouraged because the potential is also very large.
For example, this year North Sumatra began exporting animal feed from corn waste to South Korea. The export of corn waste animal feed supports the Three Times Movement (Gratieks) which is the idea of the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo. "We will continue to spur agricultural exports in order to provide more value for farmers," he said.
