Foreign Markets Open, Chamber of Commerce Encourages Exports of Yogyakarta Horticultural Products to Be Improved

Indonesian horticultural products have wide market potential abroad. The government should encourage farmers to increase product exports to boost the economy, especially in DIY. “Horticultural products such as vegetables and fruit have the potential to be exported. Currently, housewives and young people have started business-to-customer via e-commerce," said Deputy Chairperson of the DIY Kadin Robby Kusumaharta when opening Technical Guidance (Bimtek) for Horticultural Product Exports in the Hall of the Office of Agriculture and Food Security (DPKP). DIY, Wednesday (29/6/2022). The Technical Guidance for Export of Horticultural Products was initiated by the Millennial Export Horti Association (Perhemi), Kadin DIY, DPKP DIY, Bank Indonesia (BI) DIY and the Yogyakarta Agricultural Quarantine Center. This two-day event was attended by at least 20 participants who will be provided with a number of requirements, permits and mechanisms for exporting horticultural products.

"The trend of enjoying horticultural products abroad must be responded quickly," he said. Head of Perhemi Triadi Nugroho said that they are ready to bridge horti farmers even though it is only small and medium scale so that they can export. The government must provide convenience so that Indonesian horti products cannot compete with Thailand, which is known as the largest horti exporter in the world.
"We are ready to help lift Indonesian farmers to enter the export market because the potential is very large," said Acting Deputy Head of BI DIY Representative Tantan Heroika saying the agricultural sector is still the main contributor to economic growth in DIY. This sector still contributes significantly , so that it becomes a potential that must be developed not only to meet the needs of the domestic market but also exports. "The contribution of the agricultural sector in DIY to the economy has reached 10 percent.

Its exports also grew by around 19 percent," he said. Secretary of DIY DPKP Titi Purwati admits that not many horticultural products in DIY are already on an export scale. So far, only Salak Pondoh is mostly sent to China. Meanwhile, other horticultural products, such as vegetables, medicinal plants and spices and ornamental plants, have not been widely exported. "Through this technical guidance, it is hoped that farmers can market more widely by exporting," he said.
