Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir is committed to maximizing the potential of Jakarta's Old Town to grow the community's economy. Erick will soon beautify the 1.3 square km area. Erick Thohir hopes that with the new face, Kota Tua will be able to become a new facility to boost the economic growth of the community. In addition, the General Chairperson (Ketum) of the Islamic Economic Community (MES) will make Kota Tua a place for art and cultural activists in the country. "Well, this is so that we encourage economic alternatives. An economy called pop culture or a cultural economy that can create jobs and also become new economic growth," said Erick in his statement, Monday 27 June 2022.
In addition, he wants the Old City to be victorious again like the Sarinah Building, which was renovated earlier. Erick Thohir hopes that Kota Tua can become a forum for SMEs and local brands to market their products. "This area can be maximized for the opening of MSMEs and Local Brands as well as the growth of employment opportunities such as those that have been built in Sarinah and several Post Offices that have been converted into Pos Bloc," said Erick Thohir. The rejuvenation of Kota Tua is planned to be worked out next year. Erick Thohir is optimistic that this historic place can become an icon that is useful for people's lives. "We hope that by the end of 2023 it can be done," he said.
