The Development of Indonesia's Sharia Economy, Especially Halal Food, Ranks Up

In 2022, the development of the sharia economy, especially halal food, is the only one that has increased. In the world, its position rose from the 4th rank to the 2nd rank. "Compared to 2021, Indonesia's position this year has only increased in the halal food indicator, from rank 4 to 2," said Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso, Sunday, June 26, 2022. Meanwhile, other indicators have stagnated when compared to with other Muslim countries. Islamic finance and fashion indicators and downgrades in tourism, pharmaceutical and cosmetic indicators, as well as media and recreation also experienced the same thing.

Susi assessed that in developing the sharia economy in Indonesia, it is still wide open because the majority of the population is Muslim. However, the real sector is the most important in the sharia payment scheme. "Not only about the sharia payment scheme, the most important thing is in the real sharia sector whose development is still far from what we expected. We still need a lot of work in the future related to the halal industry and other Islamic economics," he said. Based on data from the OJK in May 2021, the market share of sharia shares and corporate sukuk continued to increase and could continue to be expanded further. It's just that the market share and net asset value of Islamic mutual funds recorded a year-to-date decline.
