The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) recorded that imports of medical devices (alkes) and vaccines reached Rp. Vaccine imports amounted to Rp. 4 trillion. "Indeed, the trend of importing medical devices and vaccines is in line with the movement of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia," said Director of Customs Facilities at DJBC Untung Basuki in a media briefing, Friday (17/6). According to him, from the import value, the realization of utilization was recorded at IDR 1.02 trillion.
This consists of a vaccine import facility of IDR 831 billion and an medical equipment import facility of IDR 195 billion. He explained that in the health sector, imports of vaccines dominate because they are still needed. Meanwhile, the import of medical devices has actually fallen as the COVID-19 has slowed. "More now, the dominance is vaccines, for medical devices it tends to go down," said Basuki. Meanwhile, imports of medical devices are dominated by drugs, PCR test equipment and oxygen (including oxygen cylinders) as well as respiratory therapy equipment. Meanwhile, there were 53.48 million doses of imported vaccines.
The provision of fiscal incentives for medical devices and vaccines is contained in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 226 of 2021. With this policy, the government provides exemption from import duties and import taxes on all medical devices and vaccines in the context of handling COVID-19 until June 2022.
