Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked Indonesian Islamic economic and financial players to strengthen international cooperation to increase the competitiveness of halal products in the global market. This was conveyed by the Vice President at the Opening of the 2022 International Halal Congress at the Novotel Hotel and Convention Center, Pangkalan Baru, Bangka Belitung, Tuesday. "I invite Indonesian sharia economic and financial actors to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with friendly countries in the development of the halal industry, halal tourism, and other halal businesses," said the vice president.
Based on the 2021 Bank Indonesia Islamic Financial and Economic Report, said the Vice President, the share of priority sectors in the halal economic chain to Indonesia's GDP increased to 25.4%. The highest contribution came from the agricultural sector, followed by halal food, Muslim-friendly tourism, and Muslim fashion. "In 2022, with a much better handling of COVID-19, the economy will run faster, including the halal sector. This momentum must be maintained and utilized, so that we can realize Indonesia's target of becoming the center of the world's halal industry by 2024," said the Vice President. To that end, the Vice President emphasized the importance of strengthening synergies and collaboration between related institutions that handle the Indonesian Islamic economy and finance. Ending his remarks, the Vice President conveyed the importance of halal product certification to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian product exports to other countries. "The obligation of halal certification will also provide added value in the halal supply chain so as to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian product exports, especially to OIC countries," said the Vice President.
