Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono said the government was preparing a system to encourage the expansion of the scope of the commodity balance from the current five export-import commodities, expanded to 43 commodities with 3,511 HS codes in 2022. "There are several commodities that we hand over to the respective ministries and technical institutions. Later we will develop a mechanism for consolidation," said Susiwijono in an online Commodity Balance Talkshow in Jakarta, Monday. Commodity Balance is data and information that contains the consumption and production situation of certain commodities for the needs of the population and industrial needs within a certain period of time that is determined and applies nationally.
According to Susiwijono, in order for export-import commodities to be included in the commodity balance, the government should first hold coordination meetings one by one, but this will make it difficult to fulfill the obligation to prepare a balance sheet for 43 commodities. "Therefore, in order to pursue the mandatory target, we are creative in designing a mechanism that can roughly solve everything by encouraging the active involvement of ministries and technical institutions," he said. He said he would continue to improve the commodity balance system based on problems that arose after being implemented for a year. Socialization, education, and discussions will also continue to be carried out for line ministries and technical institutions so that the export-import commodity balance can be more integrated. He said the commodity balance is expected not only to make it easier for business actors to get permits to import or export commodities, but also to become the basis for decision-making by state leaders. "So at the back end, we make this balance really useful. Don't just speed up, simplify, prevent corruption, only make it transparent when serving, but it must be really useful to be the basis for making state leaders' policies," he said.
