The value of agricultural exports in April 2022 experienced positive growth, which was 15.89% (YonY) compared to the same period last year. This was as reported by the Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Tuesday, May 17, 2022. “This growth was caused by increased demand for several commodities to big countries such as China and America. With this increase, the agricultural sector has a total share of 1.44 percent," said Head of BPS Margo Yuwono. The increase in agricultural exports, continued Margo, also occurred when calculated cumulatively, from January to April 2022. The increase even reached 11.93% or with a total share reaching 1.66%. "That way the agricultural sector contributes to total exports for non-oil and gas reaching 94.93%," he said. Meanwhile, if calculated on a monthly basis, the agricultural sector fell due to coffee and fruit commodities.
Head of the Bureau of Public Relations and Public Information of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) Kuntoro Boga Andri said the increase in exports which was calculated annually and cumulatively was proof that agriculture was one of the most strategic sectors that could boost the national economy. "Agriculture is proven to be able to encourage economic acceleration both through domestic businesses and the number of exports. All are related to government programs that accommodate all interests in agricultural development. This includes programs to increase production and farmer welfare run by the Ministry of Agriculture," said Kuntoro.
