Indonesia has the opportunity to penetrate fishery products by participating again in The 19th Seafood Show Osaka 2022 which will take place on April 13-14, 2022 at ATC Hall Osaka, Japan. "Japan is one of the countries with the largest consumption of fishery products in the world with a total import value from around the world reaching more than 9.9 billion US dollars," said Director General of National Export Development Didi Sumedi in a statement in Jakarta, Friday. Didi said that Indonesia's participation in the exhibition was the right step to kick-start and increase the export volume of Indonesian fishery products to Japan. The 19th Seafood Show Osaka 2022 is the largest fishery product exhibition in western Japan (Kansai). The exhibition was attended by around 400 importers and retailers who are domiciled in Japan. In this exhibition, Indonesia was the only participant from outside Japan who took part in the exhibition. The exhibition is also a follow-up to the implementation of Foodex Tokyo 2022 and a series of promotions carried out by trade representatives in Japan, especially for Indonesian fishery food and beverage products. Didi said that Indonesia is the 11th supplier of marine and fishery products to Japan with a market share of 4 percent. In 2021, the total value of this sector's export transactions to Japan was recorded at 433.8 million US dollars, an increase of 3.19 percent compared to the previous year. "Japan is the main export destination for fresh and chilled yellowfin tuna from Indonesia. Since 2018 the contribution of exports to Japan has always been above 80 percent of Indonesia's total exports to the world," said Didi.
Furthermore, Didi said that the increase in market share of fresh and chilled yellowfin tuna from Indonesia to Japan continues to be increased through product innovation. "One of them is by introducing the kiriotoshi/cut off yellowfin tuna which is presented at the Indonesian Pavilion," he added. Indonesia's participation in this event is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Osaka and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo. Participation was coordinated by the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka Team and the Economic Team of the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka. The Indonesian Pavilion was officially opened by the Indonesian Consul General Osaka Diana Emilla Sari Sutikno on Wednesday (13/4). At this opening, Consul General Diana was accompanied by Trade Attaché Arief Wibisono, Head of ITPC Osaka Dicky Farabi, Plt. General Manager of BNI Tokyo Dyah Paramita, and President of the Japan Fisheries Association Toshiro Shirasu. In this exhibition, the Indonesian Pavilion occupies an area of 24 m2 or 6 times wider than the participation in the previous year.
