Logistics Entrepreneurs Association: G20 Presidency Attracts Investment

The General Chair of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) DPP Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi said that the G20 Indonesia presidency could be an opportunity to attract a lot of investment to Indonesia. “What we want is a trade agreement, business agreement, and investment agreement in a tangible form that can be useful for Indonesia. That is what we hope as business actors so that the impact of the benefits is felt together. Therefore, it must be inclusive and collaborative," he said in an official statement, Tuesday.

The G20 presidency is an opportunity for Indonesia to show the world its success in maintaining a trade balance surplus for 22 consecutive months since May 2020 amidst the spread of COVID-19. This success certainly opens up more opportunities to attract world investors to invest in Indonesia, especially in the logistics sector, which is recovering faster than other sectors. “The logistics industry is the first to be affected by the pandemic. But we are also the fastest to recover," he said. In March 2020 the logistics industry contracted by 32%, but four months later there was a recovery in the logistics industry sector, which consists of goods and transportation logistics. "It is proven that in 2021, with our positive economic growth of 3.2%, growth in logistics was around 5 to 6%. This means that there are improvements and moving forward,” he said. He added that economic recovery cannot be separated from the collaboration of many parties so that inclusiveness can be realized.

Indonesia's logistics and transportation sector is included in the global supply chain so its recovery requires collaboration to be successful, for example by collaborating with information technology (IT) companies that support the logistics industry. “For example, IT companies that collaborate or partner with people who have expertise in logistics, for example. It's a form of collaboration that I think is quite concrete," he said. Collaboration can also be done by utilizing warehouses that have not been operated optimally. “What we have to think about to encourage these goods is starting from farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), large and those engaged in the IT sector. How can our products be known abroad and deliver them and have competitiveness," he said. Regarding the 2022 G20 Indonesia Presidency, Yukki said it was a big opportunity. As a business actor, I hope that the results of the meeting between the G20 countries are not limited to agreements between countries. “What we want is a trade agreement, business agreement and investment agreement in a tangible form that can be useful for Indonesia. That is what we hope as business actors so that the impact of the benefits is felt together. Therefore, it must be inclusive and collaborative," he said.
