The government of Kediri Regency, East Java, has made Jugo Village, Mojo District, a center for organic coffee. This step was taken in preparation for finalizing plans for exporting coffee commodities to various countries. Kediri Regent Hanindhito Himawan Pramana said that the potential for coffee plants in his area was quite wide. One of the centers is in Jugo Village, Mojo District. The district government also provides assistance, so that later it can produce the best quality plants. "We will provide End to End assistance. So, so that we can print true export quality seeds," said Hanindhito, in Kediri, Sunday (10/4/2022).
He mentioned that there are 35 hectares of land on the slopes of Mount Wilis which is expected to become a center for organic coffee. Therefore, Hanindhito also ensured that his party would make improvements to the production house in order to get the best quality coffee. "Especially when coffee has entered the production house. If the production house is good, it will produce good coffee too," he said. He also said that the potential for coffee from Kediri Regency is believed to be even better in the future. Moreover, next year the airport will operate. Kediri Regency will be the new fulcrum after Surabaya. Coffee is also possible to be one of the primadonna of MSMEs that have high selling power in addition to pineapple and mango podang from this district.
Acting Head of the Department of Agriculture and Plantation (Dispertabun) of Kediri Regency, Anang Widodo, said that this project will involve a combination of farmer groups (Gapoktan). In addition to developing organic coffee, Gapoktan will also get a stimulant from livestock in the form of goats as a supplier of manure which will be used as organic fertilizer for this coffee. "There is strengthening of livestock. Gapoktan will get goats that will breed. And the manure will be returned as fertilizer for this coffee," said Anang. Meanwhile, related to the coffee export plan, Anang said if production runs smoothly, by the end of 2023 or early 2024, Kediri Regency will be able to export at least 1 ton of organic coffee. Exports can be made to up to 10 countries including the Middle East and Malaysia.
