The Ministry of Industry Determines to Stimulate Green Industry, This is the Strategy

The Minister of Industry stated that the implementation of a green economy is in line with one of the main issues raised in the agenda of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia, namely the transition to sustainable energy. "The delegates and representatives of international institutions accepted the proposals submitted by Indonesia in the Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG), including regarding the environment," he said. In addition, the first Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG-1) session will also be held, which is a series of agendas for the Indonesian G20 Presidency. "The discussion in the ETWG-1 session covered three priority issues of sustainable energy transition, namely global energy security, securing energy accessibility, and smart and clean energy technologies scaling up," he said. The Minister of Industry added that the low carbon development (LCD) policy, which is often referred to as low carbon development (PRK), has become a national priority. The goal is to maintain economic and social growth through development activities with low Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and minimizing the exploitation of natural resources.


In order to realize a green economy and achieve low-carbon development targets, the Ministry of Industry has made various strategic efforts, such as regularly holding the awarding of Green Industry Awards since 2010. Next, the preparation of Green Industry Standards, efforts to reduce GHG emissions, implementation of carbon economic value according to Presidential Regulation No. 98 2021. Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry will also encourage the management of industrial waste, the development of a circular economy, and the development of the production and use of electric vehicles. The Green Industry Award is a program of awarding industrial companies that have implemented green industry principles in their production processes, with the aim of motivating industrial companies to apply green industry principles. “The Green Industry Awards will be held for the 12th time in 2022. In 2021, there will be 152 participating companies. This number in my view is still relatively small. We hope that industry players can immediately be called upon to participate,” said the Minister of Industry.


He added that participating companies are expected to improve their performance in order to get a green industry award with a higher level. "Based on data from 152 industrial companies participating in the 2021 Green Industry Awards, there were recorded energy savings of IDR 3.2 trillion and water savings of IDR 169 billion," said the Minister of Industry. Until 2021, 44 manufacturing industries have been certified by the Green Industry Standard. In addition, from the GHG emission reduction program, based on the verified results for the 2021 reporting year, until 2020, emissions reductions have been successful up to 2,730,564.26 tons of CO2e or 99.3% of the NDC 2030 target for the industrial sector. (2.75 million tons of CO2e). On the same occasion, Head of the Standardization Agency for Policy and Industrial Services (BSKJI) Doddy Rahadi explained that the 12th series of Green Industry Awards in 2022 will be held for seven months. "Starting with the launch in April, which will end with the awarding of a Green Industry Award in November to industrial companies that have implemented the principles of a green industry in a sustainable manner," he said.
