Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan said Indonesia's economic recovery had shown a positive trend since late January 2022, due to the controlled Omicron variant. "Although it had declined, Indonesia's economic recovery was able to rise quickly and showed a very positive trend since the end of January," Luhut said in a press statement after the Limited Meeting on Evaluation of the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) at the Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, Monday.
He said the controlled variant of the Omicron caused the economic recovery to be well maintained. This, said Luhut, can be seen from the expenditure index which has increased again in all regions, even Bali and Nusa Tenggara have reached their highest levels since the pandemic hit. Nationwide in less than 3 months, daily cases have fallen very sharply to 97 percent of peak cases caused by the Omicron variant. In addition, nationally active cases have also decreased by 83 percent from the previous peak of cases, so that currently they are below 100 thousand active cases, as well as a decrease in the rate of hospitalization by up to 85 percent.
The number of people who died also fell sharply by 88 percent compared to the peak of Omicron cases last year. "From the data above, we conclude that the Omicron variant in Indonesia is in a controlled position," Luhut explained.
