The export value of various oil and gas and non-oil and gas commodities from the Province of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) to a number of destination countries in February 2022 reached USD 2.01 billion. This indicates an increase of up to 85.89% on a monthly basis or an increase of 55.40% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the import value reached USD 324.36 million, up 61.19% compared to the previous month. "The trade balance in February 2022 was a surplus of USD 1.68 billion " said Acting Head of BPS Kaltim Nur Wahid as quoted on Sunday (3/4/2022). He added that the export value of oil and gas goods reached USD 179.71 million, an increase of 147.69% and the export of non-oil and gas goods was recorded at USD 1.83 billion, up 81.44% compared to the previous month. Wahid stated that the increase in the export value of oil and gas goods in February 2022 was influenced by the increase in the export value of natural gas goods with an increase of 193.79%.
"Of all exports for the period January - February 2022, the role of exports of oil and gas goods reached 8.16%, while the role of exports of non-oil and gas goods reached 91.84%," he explained. According to the 2-digit HS category of goods, the export value of goods also increased compared to January 2022. In detail, the largest percentage increase in export value occurred in the organic chemical goods category (29), followed by optical instruments, photography and accessories (90).
Meanwhile, the percentage decline in export value occurred in the inorganic chemical material category (28) which fell by 31.31% and the animal fat and oil category (15) by 5.60%.
Furthermore, Wembri said that the main destinations for East Kalimantan's oil and gas exports in February 2022 were Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia, which reached USD 90.71 million, USD 62.48 million and USD 20.53 million, respectively. Furthermore, the main non-oil export destination countries for East Kalimantan were China, India and Japan with achievements of USD 440.47 million, USD 411.92 million and USD 165.37 million, respectively. These three countries accounted for more than half of East Kalimantan's non-oil exports, which reached 55.85% of the total non-oil and gas exports in February 2022. Cumulatively, the export value of East Kalimantan Province for the January - February 2022 period reached USD 3.09 billion, an increase of 20, 41% over the same period in 2021.
