Indonesia Becomes the King of Southeast Asia's Digital Economy

Head of INDEF's Center of Digital Economy and SMEs, Eisha M Rachbini said that Indonesia's digital economy controls the largest portion of Southeast Asian countries. Indonesia's digital economy is also predicted to have the potential to continue to grow. "Indonesia controls 40 percent of the digital economy in the Southeast Asia region, or USD 70 billion," said Eisha in an online discussion, Jakarta, Wednesday (30/3/2022). Meanwhile, in the second position there is Thailand which has a share of 17 percent. This portion will reach around USD 30 billion in 2021. The growth of this digital economy will continue to rise in line with the needs of the community. Indonesia is even predicted to achieve a doubling of the digital economy in the next four years. "Indonesia's digital economy is predicted to continue to grow to reach USD146 billion in 2025," said Eisha. Meanwhile, the digital economy in Southeast Asia is predicted to grow by USD 319 billion in 2025. By sector, the digital economy is dominated by the USD 120 billion e-commerce sector. "Furthermore, online media reached a portion of USD 22 billion, the transport and food sectors USD 18 billion," said Eisha.
